first steps are to choose the business type and activities, choose the right
legal form and choose the location. We guide you through each step and give
expert advice on legal matters, business plans and much more besides.
2.1 Choosing
Business Types and Business Activities
–
Businesses
fall into three categories:
a. Professional – personally offered
high-value services such as management consultancy or public relations
b.
Commercial – this includes any
business that trades in goods or
services to the public such as retail sales
c.
Industrial – this includes all
manufacturing businesses or operations
involving processing goods or packaging products for
sale
You
must be clear on all of your business activities, as some companies will
undertake several activities under one business license. To help you decide, we
provide a full list on the legal Structure of some companies.
3.
Choosing the Legal Form for Business
When
you select a legal form for your business in Dubai, you must take into account
the business type, business activities, the number and the nationality of
owners and the ownership options. There is a wide range of legal forms to help
you choose the one that is right for your business.
These
include sole proprietorships, partnerships, branches of foreign companies and
many more.
4.
Choosing Business Location
Choosing
the right location for a new company is one of the most important factors for
success. Dubai‘s mainland and freezone options have different advantages
depending on your business type and activities.
Mainland
Dubai has some of the best business locations in the world ranging from Sheikh
Zayed Road, the city’s main highway and Downtown Dubai, home to the world’s
tallest building, to the smaller shops, and massive malls.
If
you choose Dubai mainland, you will need to register with the Dubai Department
of Economic Development, who will issue you with a Dubai business license.
The
specialist freezones may be better suited to your business. Dubai has more than
20 freezones, including Media City, Dubai International Financial Centre, Dubai
Airport Freezone and Jebel Ali Freezone, one of the largest ports in the world
and home to 6,400 companies. Each freezone has its own licensing body and you
need to contact them directly for the licensing process.
Whether
you decide on mainland Dubai or a freezone, all businesses and their employees
will pay NO business taxes or personal taxes. Whichever location you choose,
Dubai is a business opportunity not to be missed.

rights can differ, depending on the type of business and business activities
and the location of you business.
It
might sound like there is a huge difference between Dubai mainland versus
freezones when it comes to ownership rights.
However,
business ownership and operational control are two separate matters.
In
reality UAE nationals and their overseas partners can agree between themselves
how profits can be shared and how business decisions are ultimately made.
This
means even if overseas business owners set up their businesses
